Case Studies

An independent boarding Preparatory School for boys and girls between the ages of 3 and 13. The school is located in beautiful parkland near Shaftesbury in Dorset, Southern England.

The Challenge

The school were looking for a new supplier to help them take control of their communications network. The existing telephone system was too small and inflexible, and in need of rationalising in order to perform as the school needed.

Our Solution

We worked closely with the school's IT team to understand their current infrastructure, and reassure them that taking control of all their systems was both practical and achievable. As a result, we were able to recommend an 'Internet Protocol' (IP) telephone network layered across their existing data network. This extended easily to the music school (where there was computer cabling but no existing telephone cabling). We then supplied a cabinet filled with cards from their old system, which would run their existing telephones and save them money. Now they are in the process of migrating their system, at their own pace, from a traditional telephone system to a fully enabled 'Voice over IP' (VoIP) system, managed entirely by the school's IT department.

Added Feature - Connecting to mobile staff

The school asked us how best to communicate with the maintenance team and other members of staff who are constantly on the move. We twinned their mobile phones with a standard telephone extension, so the mobile becomes part of the system. Calls are now delivered to the extension and the mobile at the same time, so these staff can be contacted much more easily.
